Lost files

I lost a lot of files when cutting and pasting them to another folder. The
computer gave a message that a file was already in use by another program and
stopped copying the files. But both the old and the new folder don't contain
the files. No program was running at the time, other then explorer that I
used to cut and paste the files. I checked the recycle bin and did a search
for the files, but they are not there. Can anyone tell me how to retreive
them?

Stop using the computer until you try some data recovery utilities. Here
are some links for data recovery tools. Download them on another computer,
copy to floppy or CD and run them from that.

If they don't work for you, then the next option is to send the drive to a
data recovery specialist. They can be vey expensive so it depends on how
important the data is to you.

Executive Software “Undeleteâ€:

Next time when moving files, copy them, then when the copy is successful
delete the source files.

You should always have a full and complete backup of important data so when
glitches like this occur you just restore from the backup.

Hi Maurice,

As Rock has said, in the future, get in the habit of "right-clicking" on
files--It will give you the option of moving or copying a file. It gives
one time to think, and therefore less chance for errors.
