Lost files when copy from USB pen

Eager

Using Vista ultimate (x86) and tries to copy approx 700 MB from USB pen
(Corsair Flash Voyager GT 8 GB) connected directly to USB port in the Vista.

First time I copied to a network mapped disk on a WS 2003 enterprise (x64),
most of the files were not copied (but no error message).
Next time I tried to copy to a local disk on the Vista machine, this was a
little better, but still lost a substantial part w.o.error message.
Last time I tried again to copy to the local Vista machine, this time I lost
"only" 4 files w.o. error message.

Then I copied directly from USB pen on the server machine (WS 2003
enterprise x64) without any problem, so it seems like the problem has to do
with Vista or the combination of USB pen and Vista.

Anyone with similar experiences, advices ?
(this was close to a major data loss for me)

Absolutely. Have lost data when using Vista to copy large volumes of large
jpg files from a usb device (camera) through a Vista laptop and network to
another USB device (external HD) connected to the XP computer on the other
end of the network. Vista gave error messages, refused to copy anything more
until rebooted, and corrupted the files. Vista file handling, especially
over networks and using WPG is a disgrace.
