Hi i recently had a power cut that cut off computer while still
switched on . when i switched computer back on could not get anything
to work eventually managed to get it to read windows xp disc and had
to reinstall windows xp.

It's highly unlikely that you "had to," but you chose to. If you had asked
here before doing that, we probably could have helped you recover your data.

unfortunately I have now lost everything all

Unfortunately, that's true. When you do a clean reinstallation of Windows,
it formats the drive and you lose everything there.

my music my pics my programmes everything just got the windows xp now
and nothing else, the system restore doesnt work because it only goes
back to today when i reinstalled windows xp. Can anyone help im
desperate as a lot of the stuff is irreplaceable.

I don't want to give you a hard time about this, but for the future it's
important for you to understand that if what's on your drive is
irreplaceable, and important to you, it is *critical* that you have an
external backup of it. As has often been said, it's not a question of
whether you will have such a problem, but when.

Im sure the stuff
must still be on my hard drive but how do i get it back. thanks in
advance.

You probably can't, short of sending or bringing your drive to a hard drive
recovery service. That kind of service is very expensive (in the range of
$1000US) and may or may not be able to help in your case.

im a lorry driver i drive 44 ton trucks into
central london, could you come and do my job ?

Once I got used to right-hand drive, sure!

From what I've heard about London traffic, you don't go very fast.

Yes I can drive big trucks since I was 17 and first got my license. I
guess you learned about backing up your data the hard way, as most
people do. Once you install the OS to the drive again chances are all
your past data is gone.

Actually uncle grumpy is wrong .
You did not loose everything unless the disc it self is physically damaged
and not
readable because of its physical condition.
After power loss the hard drive sudden shut down could cause loosing
partition
and even format recognition. But there is a good chance everything is still
on that disc except the reinstalled operating system is not recognizing it
because of another layer of partition exist.
Simply formatting the hard drive does not delete data off the disc.
I have been performing data recovery with an awsome software.
I suggest check on this site. http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/
so its not nice giving the wrong advice not knowing about it.
