Lost ethernet driver? on hard drive format

I had to reload XP a few months ago and after I did, I was not able to
connect to my cable modem by my LAN port in back. I now can only connect
through a USB port. Can anyone help me out? It's as if my computer is not
even detecting the port. I have a Dell 2400 running XP.

Go to their Support and Downloads area and enter your Service Tag (Black
Sticker on your PC) and download the latest driver for your Network device.
Install it. See if that helps.
