LOST EMAIL DATA

C

Chezza Daniel

I transferred email files and data from XP Windows on old computer to Windows
Vista on new computer. Had already begun receiving emails on new computer.
These new emails and new addresses etc were lost when old files successfully
transferred. Can I retrieve these new emails from my new computer.

There's a pretty good chance those messages and contacts are still
"somewhere" on you Vista machine. Messages are stored as ".eml" files in
Windows Mail, in a folder under your Users folder, and contacts are stored
as ".contact" files. Maybe your default store folder was changed during the
transfer, causing the "newer" messages and contacts to disappear. If you
are up to doing some detective work, you can start by clicking on the start
button, and entering "*.eml" (asterisk-dot-eml, no quotes) and see what
messages are found. If you're lucky, your "new" messages will be there. If
they are not, chances are they're gone for good, sorry. To search for
contacts (also stored in your User folder), search for "*.contact" and see
if they show up there. If they show up in the search window, you can look
to see which folder they are stored in, write it down, and go back to
Windows Mail and import them (ditto for contacts) Happy hunting!
If not, they are probably gone.
Hope this helps out.
Pete
