Lost drive 2 - recoverable ?

B

bill

I dual boot with WinME & XP. I was in XP using
the start menu and I clicked on the MS SDK entry
and the computer re-booted. The program is located
in a directory on logical drive F, physical drive 2
which has 2 other logical drives. When booted back up,
drive 2 had disappeared.

Something similar happened about a 2 years ago when
the drive was almost new. Does this mean it's bad
and should be replaced or is this par for the course ?

I haven't used any program to try to restore it; only
findpart. Here is the output of 'findpart all'.

Can drive 2 be restored ? Using findpart ?
Or fdisk ?

Thanks for any help,

Bill Mudd

It seems to be a partition table and FAT32 boot sector repair case. In
the last 5 years, I did not make one single error in a batch file
posted here, but it has now become a too large pressure for me to keep
that rate.

As example, the command to copy files (not repair) from the first
logical partition will be:

findpart chsdir 2 1 1 1 backupbootsector copy

(not a batch file). Assuming the internals of the partitions are OK,
except for the boot sector.

Probably this is the problem of the windows system
I suggest you use partition table doctor. It provides very useful
functions: Backup partition table, Restore partition table, Rebuild
partition table, undelete partition,Fixboot.
