Lost Data from Business Contact Manager

Don Smith

I was running Outlook 2003 w/ biz contact manager beta.
It expired Nov. 30, I loaded the final release version
of Office Pro 2003 included in the action pack
subscription. It however did not included Business
Contact Manager even though MS website states BCM will
ship with pro and small business versions of office. In
any case I lost all data in my business contact manager
database. Does anyone know how to retrieve this data?
Or at least where the MSDE data is located so i can back
that up and reinstall and perhaps find my data again.

Thanks in advance for any help.

BCM is in the *retail* and *OEM* versions of Office Pro and also available as a separate download for MSDN subscribers, as well as available to volume license customers. I'm not even sure what an Action Pack is, but I know BCM was not included in the trial version distributed at some of the launch events.

If you roll back the system date on your machine, you may be able to get the expired copy of BCM to allow you to export the Accounts and Business Contacts data.

FWIW, even if you had retail BCM, you still wouldn't be able to recover all your data, because the database format changed between the last beta and the final release.

Thanks for your try. I also tried rolling the date back
and unistalling 2003 then reinstalling the beta version
with no success. FYI the Action pack is a cheaper MSDN
subscription for VARs which includes versions of all
server software and most applications just not any of the
developer apps. Its about $200-$300. from MS partner
site. look under sales and marketing if you are
interested. Thanks again for your help and the info
about the different databases was the real info I needed
to allow me to give up and move on.
