Lost customization

Earlier today, I started up Excel to do some quick calculations. It
gave me an error message during startup, but I didn't pay close
attention and was able to do what I wanted.

Tonight I opened it against to use a template I made years ago. It
opened without error, but I have lost the customized tool bars that I
have been using for years.

So I went looking for information on what file contained my toolbars.
"Help" was useless (as usual), but I found a web site that says this
information is stored in a file named username.xlb.

There is only one such file on my system, Excel.xlb, but when I click
on it, it doesn't do anything, and in particular doesn't restore my
custom toolbars.

I haven't ever made a backup of an .xlb file before, only templates
(.xlt) and spreadsheet files (.xls).

Any suggestions on how to recover this toolbar? (I still have the
macros, stored in PERSONAL.XLS)

The Excel.xlb is more than likely your toolbar file. The problem is, it
seems to have been overwritten with the default toolbar set rather than your
customizations.

This article suggests that the XLB may have been damaged:

Since you don't have a backup you may have to recreate you customizations.
A drag, I know. I've been there and (now) I have backups<g>.

Hi

This is getting scarry

Over the last few months I have had this problem and I know a few other guys
with the same
In various other groups it has also been mentioned

Lately my PC has started comming up with a message on boot saying that it
cannot find any configuration files (This is for Windows not only for Excel)

I am wondering if there is not some virus getting past somehow

I am running Windows 98, Office 2000 and Norton Pro all fully licensed and
updated

Anybody want to add something to this

Rex
