Lost CD Burning Capability

Hello All,

I have upgraded the hard drive for my computer, and therefore, I have to
reinstall XP and all the software. For some unknown reasons, the XP
built-in CD burning capability is no longer available.

Now, every time when I put in a blank CD and double-click on the CD drive, I
got error message that it is not accessible. Then if I right-click on the
drive to select "explorer", it will automatically open up Easy CD Creator.
I still can burn CD using Easy CD Creator's Direct CD option. But it has
some problem and I like to have the Windows' built-in option as well.

I used to be able to burn CD with the Windows CD burning utility before I
upgraded my hard drive. Does anyone know how can I get it back?

By the way, I am running Windows XP Pro.

Thank you very much.

Right-click the CD drive, choose PROPERTIES|RECORDING tab. Is recording
enabled?
It's conceivable that there is a conflict. Check the forums and help at
for Easy Cd, and stay tuned to this thread.

I could write a book on CD problems and Roxio.

Check your Event Viewer logs and note any error messages
related to CD, Roxio, MediaPlayer (even if you don't use
it), and services.

Thanks for the reply. When I right-clicked my CD drive, there is no
"recording" tab. Instead, there is a DirectCD tab...... weird.

Well, I fixed it. I went to the Roxio site. Downloaded and installed their
upgrade. Now my CD drive has a recording tab and I can open the folder for
recording.

Anyway, thank you so much for the help.

The inbuilt burning is not compatible with Direct CD and the two will
get at cross purposes with a drag and drop. So it gets turned off. If
you inhibit DIrect CD (by stopping it and its service from lading in
MSConfig), then you can enable the inbuilt burning at My Computer -
right click the drive, Properties and check the Enable box on the
Recording page
