Anyone know how I could possibly lose my calculator from my Accessories
program. I have a Gateway and now I have to go to their website to search for
their calculator opening to find my/their? calculator. Would like to find a
way to restore it. Any help is appreciated. I'm a "dummy" when it comes to
any programming or anything like it. Only know basics of using computer...

Hi, yes this worked, but do you know why it's not in my accessories program
anymore or how I can get it back there again? Thanks.

Hi

Go to the following folder in Windows Explorer:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

and create a shortcut for the Calculator with the following command:

%SystemRoot%\System32\calc.exe

See if it re-appears where it should be.

Try the following:

1. Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and click on Add/Remove Windows
Components
2. Make Sure Accessories and Utilities is checked and highlighted
3. Click on Details while Accessories and Utilities is highlighted
(selected)
4. Make sure Accessories is checked and highlighted
5. Click on Details
6. Make sure Calculator is checked

If any of these are not checked, check them and then click on OK for each
Window until you get to the Main window. Then click on Next. Windows will
verify everything is installed and install if not present.

have the SP2 cd so how to i install it or is there other way to recifty it?
thanks alot for your reply :)

ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert
"Window XP home edition service pack 2 cd" in the drive you specify.

Check and see if you have this path:

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories

See if the mswrd6.wpc is in that folder, as well as mswrd8.wpc, wordpad.exe,
and write.wpc.

Windows Components is trying to install Wordpad, which is automatic
installed when using Add/Remove Windows Components.

First:

Was Calculator checked?

You can also download the upgrade to Windows Calculator ... called Power
Calculator ... from the Windows XP PowerToy site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

However, I hate it. But you may like it.

You can change Add/Remove Windows Components to Show Wordpad as an option
under Accessories and Utilities | Accessories.
And then you can uncheck it so it won't be attempted to be installed.

Check on those files ... and what other files (you mentioned) cannot be
found?

hi yes i found the mswrd6.wpc is in that folder, as well as mswrd8.wpc,
wordpad.exe, and write.wpc.
Yes Calculator checked

ok when i try to run the windows components the 1st path that is need is the
calc.exe and it is not in the Accessories that u give me.

so when i click cancel the installation end, i would like to use the XP
calc. it will be better. how where to get the calc.exe? Thanks

The reason that Add/Remove Windows Components is not proceeding is because
it fails when trying to install Wordpad.
The reason for this is because it is trying to find the I386 folder that
contains all of the installations.

This folder, if not on your system (C:\i386 or C:\Windows\i386 or
C:\windows\system32\i386), is on your Windows XP SP1 disk.
Have you tried Add/Remove Windows Components with your Windows XP SP1 disk
in your drive?

Calculator.exe is installed in C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe as is the help
file calc.chm.

Files stored in the i386 folder are not necessarily stored by the name you
are looking for. For example, calc.exe may be stored on the CD as calc.ex_
(as will other files).

Oh i try to Add/Remove Windows Components with my Windows XP SP1 disk
in my drive when it ask me for those many file like calc, games ect. it
require me to browse the file so i point to my cd-rom drive and found the
i386 folder. outside the folder i found the calu.ex_ so i click on it but it
said setup can't copy ect. it is the right file but it just said setup can't
copy.

Thanks alot for your reply

When it asks for the location, just point the pathname to the i386 folder.
Don't look for the files. The Install Setup is just looking for the i386
folder path.

can't, it dun seem to looking for i386folder, it wanna me to get every single
file liek calu, every game ect, that why when i point to the folder it only
allow me to open until i found a .ex_ file or exe file. which mean it is
looking for ex_ file and exe file but no folder thanks

So when the Windows Dialog window appears, and you click on the Browse/Open
button and go to your i386 folder on your CD, it can't find anything at all?
Keeps telling you that it cannot find the file(s)?

You cannot type the folder ... you must use the Browse/Open button ... I
don;t know whether it is Browse or Open.
