I copied the .pst file and saved to a external hard drive before I had to do
a restore. I'm hoping it hid somewhere, but the only thing I can find is a
..nk2 file. Am I screwed? Did I save the wrong file? Any help I can get to
restore my contacts and calendar (but more importantly contacts) would be
greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Chris

Do you remember exactly where you copied it to? Did you set your view in
Windows Explorer to see hidden files and folders, including known extensions?
Did you search for *.pst?

Yes, I did show hidden files and thought I copied the right folder to my
external hard drive. When I go to retreive it though the only one it's
finding is the .nk2

I did have a similar issue to someone you helped earlier though before I did
the back-up. It was telling me that it couldn't find the mail and wouldn't
open. Hopefully that didn't hide the .pst file from me.

Is the .nk2 going to have my contacts in it? Is there a way I can convert
the .nk2 to a .pst file?

I did the *.pst search and it only found the new one.

The .nk2 file just holds the nickname cache. When you copied your PST, what
did you copy it onto?

I think I figured out the problem. I missed the step with "\local\" I think
I copied the wrong folder. I copied it from "C:\Documents and
Settings\Christopher Okey\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook" when I think I
should have copied it from "C:\Documents and Settings\Christopher Okey\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook" instead.

I'm out of luck, aren't I?a

Well certainly the NK2 file wasn't it. Can you not get anything off that
harddrive now? You don't need any folder, just the PST file.

Nope, it's rebuilt already, unless there's some way that I don't know to
check for old files some where.
