I have recently lost my most of my Icons on my startup bar. I seem to vaguely
recall that this is caused by a corrupted entry on the registry and there was
a fix to recover.

Can anyone assist me?

Thanks,
Ken

It would help to know what you are referring to as the "startup bar". Do you mean
the Start Menu; or the Quick Launch toolbar on the left side of the taskbar right
next to the Start button; or the notification area on the right side of the taskbar
next to the clock?

might be the windows feature
that "cleans up the desktop"

Are just the ICONS (pictures) missing from the Start Menu *and* its sub-menus, or
are the entries themselves (icons and shortcuts themselves) totally gone?

Does it occur in all sub-menus or just in the first-level of the Start Menu?

Some of the first level Icons are gone. For Example the ALL Programs and all
its associated level are gon

Hmmm....

Click Start> Run, type the following (or copy and paste) and click OK:
REGSVR32 /i SHELL32

Reboot.

Does that help anything?

maybe you can try right click
on the start button then select explore.

the file tree that comprises the desktop
start menu will be shown in explorer
fashion.

what you should see is the start
menu folder opened in the explorer.
in it there should be a sub folder called
programs.

if not you can check around and
see if your start menu folder was
moved into another location. if so
you can move it back.

off hand i don't recall of the utility
program that can repair the start menu
since it is a customizable feature of
windows.

if i recall what it is, i will post it for
you. i know a repair install will
likely fix you up, but not sure if
this method is really needed for this.
