Hi there,
im am doing some work for a realestate company who fell
out with their old it company. They have not been left
with the password and do not have the foggiest idea.
Could someone help me towards reseting the administrator
password of the domain controler on windows 2000 server.
Tell the realestate company to notify their old it company that it is
illegal to hold the hardware and software at ransom. The old it company
MUST provide the realestate company with any passwords and/or
certificates for logins, encrypted files, or reconstitute access to any
and all property of the realestate company that the old it company
managed. With Pre-Paid Legal Services, it's pretty cheap to subscribe
and get them to have a lawyer make a call. Your State Attorney's Office
can often provide help or direction.
If you don't have the time to apply legal pressure (and bite them back
for their unprofessionalism), then check out products to recover/replace
the password, like WinInternal's Locksmith (which is now integrated into
their other admin products). There is a freebie solution where you boot
using a Unix floppy that tries to hack at the password. I have to
wonder, however, why the realestate company doesn't persue recovery of
ALL of their property. Did they also get all the installation media,
software manuals, licenses, and such?
