Lost acount

One XP Pro computer has lost the administrator acount, but all settings are
left on the disk. There are another acount availible for login that has
administrator rights, so mostly everything works OK. When trying to make a
new acount 'administrator' I get the message 'Acount already exists'. What to
do ?

Hi

Does the 'Administrator account show up on the login on screen if you access
Safe Mode?

It seems that the computer can't be started in safe mode (by pressing F8 when
boot). Confusing ...

Hi

When you boot to the Welcome screen try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del twice - does
the 'Administrator account appear then?

The "Administrator" account is hidden when another account with
administrator privileges is created. To access it from the welcome
screen do ctrl-alt-del twice, then login with administrator and the
password. See this edit to add the administrator account to the welcome
screen.

Not possible. The built-in Administrator account *cannot* be
deleted, although it can be renamed.

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s). By design, the
only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to
reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at
the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.
