Lost access to second hard drive

I defragged my hard drives and lost access to my second drive which contains
my files which I haven't backed-up in six months. My operating system and
programs on drive 0 still work. When I try to access drive 1, I get a message
that says the drive is not formatted. How can I regain access and recover my
data?

Try power off pc,move the hd to another IDE connection on the other IDE
controller, set jumper pins on the hd & other hardware if connected, start pc.

Are you sure you "defragged" the drive and didn't "format" it, or otherwise
somehow wipe everything from it?

I would check all the connections (open the tower case) check the power
cable and the data cable.

Download a drive utility for your brand of hdd and run the diagnostics on
the drive.

Restart the PC, and enter the B.I.O.S (press "Delete" at the P.O.S.T test. -
check the 'autodetect' function of the B.I.O.S to see that both drives are
"seen" by the B.I.O.S.
