Loss of gateway after a few minutes

Description of network: Office PC's, XP Home, 2 NIC's in each. Nic 1 (192.168.1.1 gateway) connected to linksys router with DSL connection. Nic 2 (10.x.x.x gateway/network) connected to corporate net. 192.x.x.x net is for inter office applications / sharing / internet sharing. Corporate is used for only TCP/IP to a single telnet server. Initially, the whole system works properly. I can connect to other PC's / internet / telnet server

Problem: After a few minutes... (between 2 and 20) the internet connection stops working. Check the ipconfig /all. I see that the default gateway for the 192.x.x.x network is disapeared. netstat -r shows the routing table the same as before with one exception the Default gateway is now the 10.x.x.x gateway. assuming that since the singe the primary network connection dropped it filled it in with the secondary

Troubleshooting attemps: Tried switching hardware. swapped cards / networks no help. Disabled Antivirus software. If I disable the 10.x.x.x netowrk interface the 192.x.x.x connection stays up, once I re-enable the 10.x.x.x it fails within minutes. Reinstalled the TCP/ip protocol by deleting the registry entry for winsock / winsock2 and adding the new protocol.

There are other PC's in the office with XP Pro and this does NOT happen. Though I didnt set those up so there may be other software/hardware factors at hand. There are three pc's that show this problem and all are exactly the same hardware with one exception ... the second nic's in the machines are of different brands. SO I think that isolates it to a software issue

Any clues suggestions? please email me any ideas / suggestions

You should only have a default gateway on one NIC. You need to remove the
default gateway from the 10.x.x.x. NIC.

How does the 10.x.x.x network know how to get out to everything? I just mimicked the other network setups from the other machines and they have been setup with two gateways.

You should be able to access everything on the 10.x.x.x network without a
problem since you have an interface and IP on that network. Same goes for
the 192.x.x.x network. Anything not local to your pc (not on the 10.x.x.x.
network or the 192.x.x.x network gets sent to the default gateway. The
default gateway is a router that should be configured with the proper routes
to send traffic where it needs to go.
