Loss of audio

I have ASUS P5P800 Motherboard with Integrated SoundMax Audio.

Windows Vista Ultimate automatically detected and installed drivers for this.

When I initially boot up the system the sound works for all applications,
however, if I don't use my computer for a while, then go back on, I have no
sound unless I manually go into the sound control panel and do some change to
configuration, then sound is restored.

Anyone have similar issue or information on why this is happening?

Thanks,
Erik

I have BIG audio problems on my Thinkpad z60m (also a SoundMax chipset I
believe)

The device shows as High Definition Audio but it really breaks up a lot
under heavy I/O.

Almost like it's not an interrupt driven driver.

I'm hoping a new driver will come out and fix it.

well your not going to get them from the asus site, yet. What audio do you
have on that board.
Creative or Sound Max? you may be able to check their respective sites for
drivers

I have exactly the same issue, it's really annoying, say you pause a video you're watching, then u press play all sound is gone, so you have to go to your sound device and uncheck some options, press apply, then re-check the options, and sound comes back... I also notice I cant play audio CDs in WMP11 in Vista... So I think it's driver issues, and I've been scouring the web for a long time to try and resolve this with no luck yet.

I am also having the exact same issue but it is with a creative soundblaster
x-fi sound card but after i lose sound i cant restore manually from the
control panel, i have to reboot the computer. im also having the same problem
with my nvidia 7900 gs graphics card, it works perfectly at first but when i
quit out of a game and run it again it works 40 fps slower until i reboot.
currently these are my only windows vista problems but i only use a/v stuff
with my computer so it is annoying.

if you come up with any answers please reply

Hi, Mahdi.

Google for "p5p800se +soundmax +driver". You should get several hits that
might help you find the driver you need.

As you may not know, hardware makers, not Microsoft, are responsible for
drivers to make their products work with Windows. And this is a
peer-to-peer newsgroup; this is not Microsoft Tech Support.

I installed Vista, but the sound driver "soundmax" was not installed. I couldn't find the driver for Vista anywhere on the web, but i did get it fixed. Here's how...

Go to the Control Panel and find the Device Manager. You should see a little question mark icon next to a "sound" item. That's probably the problem. Double click it, then click the button that says "Reinstall Driver". Then click the text that says "Search automatically for updated driver software". It'll take a few minutes and it should find what it needs and just install it. Done! Worked for me. If it doesn't work, i have no idea what to do...

Same with me as Jodey Grist. I have a desktop D865Perl mother board and it
has built in sound max. If you pause a video start it then not sound. I even
had a program that makes a sound when it's done but it locks up in Vista!
Vista been out a long time now and still no Fix! I can temp fix it by going
to play back devices then configure the speakers. It will be on Stereo do
test and can't get sound. But then Click on something else like Mono and
click test. It will tell you some other program is using it. I say I still
want to test then sound works and I swich it back to Stereo. But if I do a
video pause I have to do it all over. It's like a switch gets stuck. Seems
like no were to tell them about it! Thinking about just going back to Windows
XP.
