I lose my workgroup. It shows up but it is inaccessible. I have to recreate
it on each PC in the workgroup and reboot them all. This doesn't always work.
I currently have one PC which says workgroup is not accessible and I just
recreated it with a new name. Why do the workgroup settings seem to disolve?
Why can't I get back in?
Rick,
Losing the workgroup ("...workgroup is not accessible...") is a subjective
description of a problems that could have multiple causes. If it's truly an
intermittent, repeating problem, it sounds like a browser issue.
How many computers do you have, how are they connected (cross-over cable, hub,
router, wired, wireless?), and what operating system (name, version, SP level)
is on each? Any of those details might help diagnose a browser problem.
Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig
listing.
The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.

You can download Browstat from either:
<
http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<
http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>
Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window.
For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:

Please provide browstat information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\browstat.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Cheers,
Chuck
