Losing Font attributes when using Paste Special Picture

E

Eric

When pasting Excel spreadsheets into powerpoint 2002 I use
the "paste special picture" option to copy exactly what
was highlighted BUT NOT link the rest of the excel
spreadsheet. When I do this I lose all of my FONT
attributes (color, bold, etc.). Is there a way to make
this work? Using "paste special Device Independent
Bitmap" makes the excel data look blurry.

Thanks,
--- Eric.

Try Paste Special as metafile or enhanced metafile.

Or Paste Special, Link. This doesn't embed your spreadsheet data in the
file, just links to it.
You can ungroup the linked table at any time to break the link.

Eric,
What does Steve know about Excel? (g).
When you copy the range in Excel as a Picture, either choose "As shown
on screen" or if you want to use the "As shown as Printed" then you
have to have a color printer set as the active printer, even if you
don't have a color printer.

Sorry I forget to include that information.

Using the paste special link Excel object, I ended up with
the same result as all the other ways to paste a portion
of a spreadsheet... NO font attributes. I have gone
through every paste special command and ONLY "device
independent bitmap" will keep the font attributes BUT the
image looks like someone smeared the copy.

Still looking for a solution.... Eric.

BTW - On older versions of powerpoint I was able to use
paste special picture and all the font and cell attributes
would stay.

Brian,
How do you do this in Powerpoint? I looked in every
option place that I could think of and I didn't find
anything labeled "As shown as Printed". I did select a
color printer and went through all the options again just
to see if maybe that would do it. It didn't.

Thanks,

Brian,
Stop the presses!!! I just sent out that last note
and then thought I should re-check the printer. It wasn't
set up as a COLOR! Re-set it again, and printed a page so
that the change would stay and low and behold... font
attributes are included. This was not a requirement on
previous version of Powerpoint, but at least it's working.

Thank you Brian,

Depending on your Office version, OS and how much stuff was selected in the
sheet, that's not unusual, but it can be worked around. What puzzles me is
this:

This sounds like a serious system problem. Let's check this: do you have a
default printer selected and is it a *local* printer driver?

Also, what happens if you do the PasteSpecial, Link and then ungroup the
results?

I sent a reply just a little while ago and then I went
back and checked the system parameters - primarily the
printer setting. I thought that I had switched to a color
printer, but beacuse I didn't print a page, the change
didn't 'take'. I did it again, and like magic... the font
attributes are back. I can use the 'paste special
picture' as I did before on previous versions of
Powerpoint, although on previous versions it didn't matter
which printer you had selected.

Very weird indeed. This certainly sounds and looks like something with a
lot of legs that would likely head into the woodwork when you turn on the
lights, doesn't it?

FWIW, I can repro that. Bold, for instance, doesn't transfer.

Hello Steve,
No I don't have a "local" printer selected it is a
network printer. Since yesterday when I wrote that ALL
problems were solved... the problem has re-appeared. I
CANNOT get the font attributes to come no matter what I do
now. What happened?

I am going to go through all the various pastes I did
yesterday, but there must be some magic to making this
work consistantly.

Thanks,
--- Eric.

Hello Steve,
No I don't have a "local" printer selected it is a
network printer.

PowerPoint has this habit of kicking you when you do that.
I'd try installing a printer driver locally, even if you don't really have
the printer, and see what happens when it's chosen as default.

Since yesterday when I wrote that ALL
