Synapse Syndrome

Since reinstalling WindowsXP recently my internet connection drops out now
and again. I find that using the Repair Connection thing in Network
Connection fixes the problem. It is a ethernet card that worked perfectly
fine for years before I reinstalled windows.

What does this repair actually do? It fizes the problem, but the problem
keeps comeing back. I've already tried the latest drivers for the NIC.

Cheers

Hi,

Mine did this also, then after doing a clean install it has never happened
again. Something in the windows code is all I can tell.

If the problem keeps happening and you've already got the most recent
NIC drivers, swap the adapter out for a new NIC. They are very
inexpensive. If the NIC you currently have is onboard, disable it first
in the BIOS.

It releases and renews the ip. Have you checked the wake on lan
setting? Sometimes I have come across this problem varying power
problems on the machine.

Right, you just reminded me that I switched on DHCP on my router. I've
configured the connection manually and it hasn't happened so far, so cheers.
