losing all shortcuts

everytime i turn on my computer, using xp, i get a
message that it could not find the owners setting and is
using general settings, then gives me 30 seconds to
acknowledge this message. the start menu has reverted
back to standard settings, though none of the data i have
saved in programs is lost. i then have to start from
scratch to rework those shrtcuts i have used. very
annoying. can anyone help?
 
Sounds like your user has become corrupt. Create a new user, transfer any
files from the old users my documents folder(etc) to the new user and then
delete the old user.
