Losing a line of text

R

Ron Shepherd

Upgraded to MS Office 2002 on a new M/C running Wxp home. Installed original
printer using xp drivers(latest). The first document in Word 2002 printed
out with the second line of text buried underneath the first line with only
a fraction of it showing. Eventually discovered by moving the whole document
down the page the problem was solved, but of course is not practical. This
problem does not show up in print preview. Have checked the print and page
set-up settings. This problem also occurs when printing from MS Excell 2002.
Haven't tried any others yet. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you.Ron.

Check with the printer manufacturer to see if this is the latest driver you
are using. But from your description, this sounds more like a physical
printer fault because there is little commonality between Word and Excel
that isn't common to printing from any other Windows application.

Have you tried printing a test page from Printer and Faxes, right-clicking
on the printer icon and clicking on Print Test Page button?

Terry, thank you for responding. I am afraid I have misled you slightly, in
that the problem is NOT solved by moving the text down the page. Have now
confirmed the latest driver is installed and printed a test sheet with no
faults. It appears Wordpad and Publisher also print with the fault, but
Notepad is ok. Is there anything else I could check? Ron

This is a bizarre problem (to say the least!). I'd suspect the cable or the
printer itself IF Notepad had printed badly as well. Is the printer a line
printer such as an inkjet or a page printer such as a Laser? (My thinking
here is that printing a test page from the Printer Properties and printing
from Notepad are both tiny print spools with little format coding: so could
it be a (hardware) memory fault somewhere - especially in the printer?)
