lose layout settings when I group inserted picture

I am using Word 2002 in Windows XP. I insert a picture
into a document, add a line border and set my layout
to "tight text wrap". Then I insert a text box into the
picture and add a circle or arrow with the draw toolbar.
I highlight all objects, right-click and "group"
everything. This will group the objects but I lose my
tight text wrap setting to "picture in front of text" and
lose the layout options altogether. Can someone please
help the poor guy??

Don't tell me, you've turned off the drawing canvas?
From insert > picture - new drawing will give you a drawing canvas. Set
*it's* layout to tight wrap and put the elements in it. The text will wrap
around the picture and text box even if the text box is not fully within the
picture. You don't even need to group them - though of course you can
without upsetting everything.
