lose drive assignments after a reboot

After assigning DVD rom to drive letter R and the Cd
writer to drive letter W, when the PC is rebooted the
drive assignments are lost the units become drive E and F
OS win2000 SP4

How did you assign the drive letters? In Disk Management?

Check the Mounted Devices key in the Registry to see if your changes are
being written to the registry.
