I am trying to add a contact to my contacts folder. When I enter the email
address in the email address field then I get a list displaying a list of
contacts. The name of this partcular contact along with my other contacts is
diplayed with the email address. If I select this entry and move on to the
next field the email address dissapears.

The same occurs if I enter the email address and ignore the displayed entry.
If I look through my contacts list this person is not not listed.

Where is outlook getting the name and email address from and why does it
dissappear?

Outlook uses its autocompletion feature to help you enter addresses. They
come from the cache of names to which you have previously sent messages. The
selected entry does not disappear when you Tab out of the field or click on
a suggested entry.

It is stored in a cache file (*.nk2) and is not related/linked to your
Contacts list.

How do you select it? When it is highlighted press TAB

Tips of the month:
-FREE tool; QuickMail. Create new Outlook items anywhere from within Windows
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data

Thanks for your help, I did what you suggested and it worked. But now I get
a message that reads " that name or distribution list has been deleted and is
no longer an address book entry". The entry is in my contacts lists, However.

thanks for your reply, It is very helpful. What is the consequence if I
delete the .NK2 File?

Exactly what produces that error message? You're leaving out too much
information. List the precise steps by which you created the Contact and
then what gives you that error.

You'll loose the cache so no names will pop-up when typing in the To, CC or
BCC field
