ESMy PC has been comprimized with either a Virus or Trojan. However, neither
Norton or AVG can find it. My Norton Firewall was disabled by an internet
application and now I have something that is running in the back ground that
is issuing the following.

Symantex Message:

Your Computer is at risk in the following areas:
-Firewall Protection is turned off.

OK

I don't have to click on the OK and the next thing I notice I receive about
8 more of the same messages. this happens about every 10 mins. If I click on
the OK i receive the following.

The web page you are viewing is trying to close the window.
Do you want to close this window

YES NO

If you click either YES or NO you receive the above Symantec message again.

I have opened TASK manager to try and identify what is executing and under
the application screen ther is nothing running.

How and where do I start to track down this problem? or is there now way to
track this, and do I just reburn my harddrive

Thank You for your help in this matter

There's a good chance that Norton has misbehaved as it is well known to do,
and has you going on a wild goose chase. No doubt if you uninstall Norton
the problem will go away. There are free firewalls available like Zone Alarm
http://www.zonelabs.com/ or Sygate Personal Firewall http://sygate.com/ and
others.

Norton doesn't cause trouble for everyone, but it is common that Norton
anything will act up with any version of windows. You may also download free
versions of AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Get both and run both to
check for malware.
