Looping an animation

This *should* be simple. I am trying to select a group of objects that
I want to appear in a particular sequence. Now a subset of these
objects I want to blink (or loop appear and disappear) repeatedly until
i goto next slide. According to microsoft help, this is easy,

click the item that you want to change the timings for.
Click the arrow and click Timing.
In the Repeat list, do one of the following:
If you want to repeat the animation a set number of times and then
stop, type in a numerical value.

The problem is that the Repeat list is greyed.. that is I cant pulldown
the box and select anything... hence I am left with nothing to do.

Can any body tell me why this is happening?
I am using Powerpoint 2002
Thanks

First, repeating is a new feature, but you may find that it does not
accomplish what you are trying to achieve.... Repeat literally repeats the
animation with no regard to the timeline or the other animations set within
the set (WITH PREVIOUS). So you statment 'I want to appear in a particular
sequence' may not do as you are hoping.

But what particular animation effect are you attempting to repeat? Is it an
animation, emphasis, exit or motion path?
Are you selecting one animation and bring up its animation timings or
selecting a group of animations (which is my guess)? The repeat option may
not be available if you are selecting a group of animations.

Repeat can be greyed out for animation features that don't lend themselves to
being repeated (i.e., appear and disappear). You might instead want to use
the blink emphasis animation. The repeat menu should not be greyed out for
blink under emphasis animations. Please let us know what ultimately works
for you so others can benefit.

Yeah that seems to be the issue. However I was hoping for it to appear
and then reappear every second. Any way to do that?

Thanks

Sure, but I don't have a sufficient idea of what visual effect you seek so as
to appreciate why simply blinking the objects/text at a once per second rate
until the end of the slide won't suffice. It would appear and then reappear
every second.

Because the logical equivalent of nested loops and go-to statements doesn't
exist in PowerPoint animation, repeating certain appearance animation
requires that the effect be re-applied in the sequence, as often as required.
Other effects can be nudged to get where you want to go by using the repeat
and rewind options.

You can also achieve a pulsing blink by repeating a fade in or fade out
animation, but it is unbalanced in appearance/disappearance times.

Thanks..I tried fade in/fade out, before looking at ur reply and it
actually does work fine for me.
Thanks
