Loopback adapter makes IE flaky?

Hello, all:

I have recently added a loopback adapter driver to my XP/SP2 (to enable a
VPN solution my company set up). When this adapter is enabled (in the
Network Connections CPL), I get "Page Cannot be Displayed" errors all the
time in IE. When I disable the adapter, IE seems to heal itself. Ping
testing also fails at the time. However, my home network connection is
fine -- I am able to Remote Desktop to my other computer and its Internet
connection seems fine.

Can anyone help reason why this might be? Is it just a coincidence? Is there
a way to test it?

Thank you,
/m

I suspect that the Loopback Adapter has a default gateway specified,
which can prevent Internet access through the computer's regular
Internet connection.

If the Loopback Adapter doesn't need to specify a default gateway,
remove the default gateway in its TCP/IP properties. Otherwise,
disabling the Loopback Adapter is probably the best solution.
