Looking to make two fully independant columns in word.

Left side has three photos, right side contains the detail instuction which
the photos support. Would ultimately like half the sheet, be it left or
right, to remain independent of the other.

Could you not use Tables and create 2 columns and three rows, then copy and
paste each picture in a separate cell in the first row and put in your text
in the corresponding cell in the 2nd row. Then click Tables and hide
gridlines so you can only see your photos and text.
