a small calendar, nothing fancy, that will sit in quick launch bar.

If you don't want anything fancy, why not just use the one sitting in
your system tray. Just double clock your time and a calendar pops up
with the time adjustment options dialog box.

A really nice one (a bit fancy) is Rainlendar...

Not entirely sure what you mean by "quick launch bar" but if you're
talking about the system tray (bottom right side of screen), Rainlendar
lives there displaying the date. You can set events and alarms as well.
It's pretty too...ooohhhh shiny :)

TClockEx is a configurable clock utility that has a pop-up calendar
with a left mouse click. That might do the trick for you.
