Can anyone give me some insight before I begin developing a procedure to
calculate employee vacation and sick days.
 
Open an instance of Word.

Write down all the business rules your organization has for calculating
vaction and sick days.

There is no way for anyone to help you with very detailed business rules.
Every organization has different rules for how this is calculated.

It's unlikely anyone can provide insights based on a vague
question like that. You need to put together a set of
detailed specifications of what you want to accomplish.
Then determine the tables and fields that will be needed to
perform whatever operations are required.
