Looking for multimon utility

W

Wald

Hi group,

I'm looking for some freeware/open source alternative for UltraMon:
UltraMon puts extra buttons on the windows title bars, that allow you to
quicky flip the window to another screen, or quickly maximize the window to
all screens, instead of the current screen.
It also supports multimonitor wallpapers. For a roundup, see:

http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

BUT

It is payware, with a 30-day trial. Does anyone know of a similar freeware
alternative?

Thanks in advance,
Wald

I've been searching for multimon utilities myself, and I'm afraid
there's not a great deal out there that's freeware.

I found a couple of useful apps though.

Wndhop.exe will move the currently active window from monitor to
monitor by use of a hotkey.
Can be a bit disconcerting if the secondary monitor is off, and you
forget where you've configured a window to open!

http://www.snowpile.com/wndhop.html

Jet toolbar is a highly configurable toolbar that can be set to run on
a secondary monitor. Useful, considering the windows task bar won't
extend onto another monitor.

These are workarounds for the highly useful facility of being able to
mirror the desktop on a secondary monitor.

Other than that, the best option is to buy a graphics card that
supports dual monitors. The Matrox ( G450 and above ) cards do, and
the driver comes with various utilities for dual monitor
productivity..including desktop mirroring.

As already mentioned, this one now points to UltraMon, currently
gone commercial.

I couldn't see this one, it just redirected me to http://reviews-

Thanks for these, but my multi-monitor setup is running just
fine... Basically I just need some extra window buttons for window
flippin' between them.

Anyway, thanks for the pointers,

I was afraid someone would confirm that :)

Well, this looks like it would handle my most-needed feature (the
window flipping between monitors). I'll try it later tonight, as
soon as I get home.
And concerning the lost windows, I've got a virtual window manager
running too, so I can locate lost windows in a blink of an eye. But
thanks for the concern :)

Looks neat!

Thanks for the hints,
