Yes, it is.

Both Ad-Aware Standard and SpybotSD have built in functions to download and
install such updates.

As Bjorn has indicated, yes it is. I've used AdAware for a couple of years
now and its latest incarnation is very quick and easy to update. Updated
reference files are made available pretty much every week. It's also very
quick to scan your entire system for adware and spyware. The previous
version of AdAware took 15 minutes or more to scan my 120GB drive- the
current version takes two minutes.

I have no experience with SpyBot, but many folks recommend using it as well
as AdAware, because one will catch things the other misses. I have never
done this as I am happy with AdAware's apparent efficiency, and my spyware
paranoia-level is not particularly high.
