Looking for best way to handle data entry

J

JM

Hello, please see this link: http://home.midsouth.rr.com/themitchells5/

I got some great help on creating a Word "online form" like the one at the
top of that webpage. Thanks to everyone.

My question is this: I'd like these client records to populate a database.
How best to do this? The total number of clients is probably 1,000 or so.
It would be great if the admin person could plug in a case number or family
name and pull up the client record.

Any and all advice appreciated.

thank you,

jm

With 1000 clients, you'd have to have rocks in your head to try do this
yourself, given that you are -- apparently -- working from a position of
almost complete ignrorance. (No offence, but haven't you ever been the
client on the receiving end of this sort of amateurishness?) Pay someone to
do it properly.

Or are you starting with a big business and working your way down?

The graphic at the top of the linked page does not appear to be an "online
form." And the one at the bottom is either the product of the world's worst
PDF or screen capture application or is extremely poorly designed and
executed. It doesn't appear to be an "online form," either.

I would have to agree with Jezebel that you need to hire someone to do this
right.

Either I can't explain myself properly, or you can't read, or I'm completely
missing the point of your reply. Perhaps all three.

The form in the website is the scan of a hard copy. I have taken that basic
format and created a Word document with tables and form fields.

Over the next year or so, a volunteer at the Samaritans is going to key in
data that today resides on those hard copy cards (such as on the web link I
posted).

I want the form fields to populate a database, so slowly over time the
organization gets their current client list into the computer.

Am I trying to climb Mt Everest here??

If you use the "Save data only for forms" option (Tools | Options | Save),
then I believe the data is saved in comma-delimited format, which you should
be able to import into Access.

thank you, that's the info i was looking for.

my comment about "you can't read" was not directed at you. my newsreader
put my reply in the wrong place.

Your newsreader worked just right, but the fact that you were replying to
Jezebel is no reason for me not to answer a question if I think I may be
able to help.

That's a nice way to look at it, thank you.

Do you happen to know if the table cells must be formatted as form fields in
order to capture the data?

Yes. If you want to capture form data, you need form fields.
