Looking for a tool for making a textfile by dragging text from application to desktop

Hi all,

Maybe it's a bit of a strange request but everyday i find myself
copying interesting pieces of text from websites to notepad and then
saving these for later use.

I think it would be very handy if it were possible to just select a
piece of text in an application window (for example IE) and just drag
the text to the desktop where a textfile is generated with the text.

Another option could be dragging the text to an open notepad window.

Does anybody know of such a tool?

"Willy Pastoor" made a strange request for copying interesting pieces of

HovText gets rid of all HTML and website formatting and allows a quick and
clean cut and paste into a text file (but won't open the notepad). Very
useful tool.

You might like a clipboard extender - a longish list is here:

I use Treepad for saving text snippets. It has a very good search and an
automatic paste function (which I mostly don't use).

One thing you might try is Win32pad, a freeware Notepad replacement.

http://www.gena01.com/win32pad/

If you have an open Win32pad window, you can drag highlighted text
from a browser to Win32pad and it will appear there as plain text. At
least this works with Firefox & Win32pad(I'm using an older version,
1.2.1). It does *not* work with Notepad itself.

This also works with an open window in Metapad, which is on the 2004

This isn't quite what you asked for, but will probably be helpful and
might be better.

Co-Citer from http://www.cogitum.com/

It allows you to copy bits of text from the net (simply highlighting
anything in IE) then it stores them in a file together with their url so
you can easily find them again. It's superb for doing a rough search of
potentially useful stuff you can go back to later.

They also do another prog called, I think, image co-tracker so you can
save web pics in a single file toghether with their source url.

Internet Explorer Text Archiver

===========================

IE Text Archiver enables you to highlight text on a web page viewed with
Internet Explorer 5 or higher and save the highlighted text with a
simple right-click to a text file in a specified folder on your local
hard drive.
===========================

I've not tried it.

It would be nice if you could post a summary, and what you
thought about them.. maybe hard work, but I think it would
help anyone who is interested in such an application, such as
myself..

TIA,
KH.
