Looking for a source for plain & simple full tower PC cases

I've searched the web.

I don't want to make a fashion statement, all I want is a plain old
full tower beige box I can throw a ATX mb into.

Any suggestions?

I think your issue is finding choices in beige. You might find
something at a flea market, though.

Looking for cases at Fry's (a mostly western-USA retailer with tons of
geekly hardware) the other day, I was surprised and disappointed to find
that of probably 30 different cases on the shelf not one was GOB (Good
Ol' Beige). It was all black (or bright colors) and silver and chrome
for the kids. The last GOB tower I got from a brick'n'mortar was from
PC Club.

I've got one sitting beside me ... brand new.
It's too big; so I'll probably never use it.
A bit expensive to ship though.

I'd try local computer shows if they have any near you.

The color isn't important. I use 'beige box' as a generic term.

I can modify a older case. I'd rather not do that again. Older cases
weren't designed to cope with the heat newer hardware generates. By
the time I get enough holes and fans into one it looks like a block of
Swiss Cheese and sounds like a jet engine warming up. I'd like to
avoid that with the new machine I'm contemplating.

None of the mid tower cases I've looked at recently have enough 5 1/2
bays in the front panel. I need at least three open 5 1/2 bays (1
optical and 2 removeable hard drives) and full tower cases usually
have at least that many.

You go to Newegg, do a power search on mid tower atx cases with 3 or
more 5 1/2 bays, and you come up with 480 hits. You couldn't find one
in there that suited you?

Imagine how cramped things would be in there with a ATX board, a pair
of SLI or Crossfire video cards and a RAID card (maybe). Plus four
hard drives for RAID 5. Plus all their cables and all the cabling for
the floppy, optical and two (minimum) removeable drive carriers. And
assorted fans and heat sinks.

I just don't think a mid-tower is going to be big enough for all that
I'm thinking of stuffing in one.

Nice feature, never tried it before.

I only came up with 200 or so though, different criteria I suppose.

TigerDirect is my usual drool and slobber hardware site. I'll be
looking at NewEgg's site a lot more now, thanks.

A couple of the mid-tower Athenatech cases didn't have me holding my
nose but I've decided the Pink one is the way to go. :-)

Seriously, the Lian Li PC-A70A Full Tower looks like it's going to be
the one. It's about $100 more than I wanted to spend and there's
still the question of Power Supply but there's all the room inside
that I want.

The only other question is if the Lian Li case packaging is armored
against FedEx or UPS handling.

Thanks. Think I'll go with the Lian Li case even though it costs
more. Not only does it look like it's built stronger than most but I
like the idea of filtering the air flow. Also, I'm pretty hard on
case doors/sliders and it's door/slider free. I'll probably be
ordering it next month.

I noticed the RaidMax cases put their buttons and gadgets on top.
That's where my feet go. :-)

Pretty handy, I've seen them before but never tried it. Beats

Not only that but FedEx will actually try to deliver the package. My
last 2 packages from UPS (there won't be any more) I had problems
getting. The driver would put an entry into the computer that I wasn't
home. He never knocked on my door and never left their little notice on
the door. Both items were important enough to me to sit at my computer
in front of my window and wait for the delivery. So I know he never
tried to deliver it. He was probably running late or just too lazy.

Have you tried the local dump? No kidding , they have an area just for
electronics. I have scavenged towers, power supplies and yes even
working memory. Most will let you pick through and take away for the
best price in town...FREE!
Check it out you may be suprised as to what people throw away.
