I seem to recall there was a freeware program that would alert me when a web
page was updated. I'm certain I had it on my old computer but I can't seem
to locate it anywhere. Can anyone point me to it please?

TIA

any limitations to this software, eg, restricted by the number of websites
for checking?

No restrictions that I can see. I just started using it because of this
thread and already got a webpage update! This is a very nice application.

no restrictions I have found. I'm checking 174 web sites at the moment. I
have it check specifically for changes to the revision numbers of programs
I have listed, every 6 hours. :)

Why is a page being marked as updated every time I check it?
It is likely that the page you are monitoring has content that changes
every time it is downloaded, for example advertising banners or hit
counters. To correct this problem, use the Specify content to check
feature to only check content you're interested in.

I rarely see this problem as almost all of the pages I check I use the
"specify content". Typically, I'm looking at a programs download page or
revision/history page and am monitoring the rev. number only. Works
really well for my needs. This is how I am able to keep all my listings
up to date, at least within 24-48 hours. I update at least one or two
listings almost daily.

Thanks burnr , had tried that , guess I shall have to play around
more & fine tune it .

If you find a particular site you're having trouble with, an email to the
author may help. I also would be interested to know any specific problems
as I rely on this tool fairly heavily and would like to stay up with any
potential future problems/solutions. You can contact me anytime using
webmaster or admin at my sig. domain :) Good luck!
