looking for a download manager (for Windows) that...

I have been using StarDownloader for a while now, but my download
directory is full of files that I have no idea what they are. I tried
FreshDownloader a few days ago after seeing a post here but it didn't do
quite what I want. You can attach a note to a download, but you have to
open FreshDownloader to see the note.

I'm looking for a download manager that will write a plain text file
along with the downloaded file.

For example:
I start to have the program download a file called abc123xyz.exe - the
program has a description text field and I enter "Cool new space
shoot-em-up game"
When it downloads the abc123xyx.exe file, it also write out a file named
abc123xyx.exe.txt with the description I just entered.

Anyone know if there is a download manager (for Windows) out there that
will do this?

Thanks,
Brian

i had the same problem for days and i think i may just found a
reasonable solution so thanks a lot for your question, 'cos it gave me
the motive to think about it

now that i think about it; i don't know any program that might do what
you suggest, but i think the following might help... this is what i
intent to do...

there's something in windows called file summary property, launch
windows explorer, right click on any file, go to properities, and see
the summary tab... here you can add comments or keywords that'll show
when you mouseover a file

so i suggest when you download a file that you click "locate on disk"
after the download is complete to bring it up and then right click and
go to properties and add some comment about it... next time you wanna
see what the file is all you gotta do it mouseover

if your downloader doesn't have "locate on disk" then there are many
that do; i'm not sure if they do but i like stardownloader and
leechget, though i'm sure mozilla has such a feature

that aside... i suggest you get ava find 'cos anyway once you download
a file, assuming ava find is run all the time and started with windows
and etc, you can to to ava find which is resting in the tray right
next to your clock, double click it, enter the name of your downloaded
file in the search field, once it shows, usually instantly, right
click on it and go to properties and same as above

of course it'll help to delete all the files you don't need anymore
and not hoard them unnecessarily especially so if you have a broadband
connection. if you have a cd burner then i suggest you use a cd
cataloguing software such as disclib and burn your files to cds
