Long pause during boot sequence

Jeff

Can anyone help me with this problem?

When I boot up Windows XP everything is normal until the
desktop is displayed and it starts to load the programs
into the task manager (in the lower right corner of the
screen next to the clock.) The Intellipoint program loads
and then there is a long pause of about 45-60 seconds
where nothing happens. Duing this time, if I move the
mouse cursor over the start menu bar the cursor becomes
an hourglass. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del the Task Manager does
not pop up until the 45-60 seconds has passed. I am able
to click on icons on the desktop but again they don't
execute until after the long pause. The HD is not being
accessed during the pause.

After the pause is over the rest of the programs load and
XP acts normally. The only other programs that load on
startup up are ZoneAlarm, Norton Antivirus and the Volume
control icon.

This problem started around the time that I disabled the
Indexing Service but I'm not sure that they are directly
linked.

Thanks for your help.

If you're certain that you don't wish to use XP's indexing feature, the
correct way to uninstall it is through Add/Remove Programs. [Click the icon
on the left to remove a Windows component.]
