Long Filenames

Whenever I try to back up my data (I simply do a click and drag process from one window of Windows Explorer to another), the copy process stops partway because I get a message that some filenames are too long. So I have to go back and try to figure out which files did not copy over. This is tedious and I'm sure I am missing some files somewhere along the line. How do I get the copy process to continue, even if it runs into a long filename? More importantly, how do I get the files with long filenames to copy from one drive to another without having to rename those files?

Is the destination drive you are copying the files to
using NTFS as a filesystem? Or is it FAT16 which I
believe will have problems with the long names...

I recommend that you fix the cause of the problem instead
of glossing over the problem. The combined length of your
folder + file name cannot exceed about 250 characters.
Put your information inside your files, not into your file and
folder names.

I might add that the paragraph above is about 250 characters.
That's a lot of text for a file name!
