Long documents in word 03 cause delete tab to hang

While worlkng on a long 400 page Word 2003 document, the delete tab 'hangs'
when I'm editing. How can I correct this?
I have a gateway laptop with Windows XP, Office with word 2003.

You might try turning off Background Repagination...go to Tools-Options, look
for this on the General tab. However, pagination will still take place in
Page view, so also try working in Normal view instead.
