When I try to create a new file or object by right clicking on a explorer
window and to to "new". I have to wait along time before the listing for
"folders, shortcuts..etc" shows up. The computer is running Windows 2000
Pro with all the latest updates. I have also disabled the antivirus program
to see if that was causing the problem but it didn't help.

Thanks.

It could be that you've got a drive letter mapped to another server at another location in your company and that server is reacting slowly. What I've found is that it's a whole lot easier to put a shortcut on my desktop to a remote location that map a drive to it. Mapping a drive to it slows Explorer down

Hope this helps.:)

Try turning indexing on.

START | Settings | Control Panel | QuickFinder Manager
go to QuickFinder Configuration tab
check the box "Enable QuickFinder automatic index updates

It worked for me.
