Long delay starting "My Computer" and related programs

AFTER installing XP on top of 2k I have a delay of > 2
minutes when doubleclicking "My computer". Other related
programs using the same process (whichever it is) also
have the same delay, i.e. CD-burning software, Word when
looking for files etc. etc. Can anyone give me a tip as
how to find and rectify this problem? Please!

Check you have updated software / drivers for printers / scanners.

A more methodical approach. Look in Event Viewer for Error Reports ( system
tab ).


Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID,
Source
and Description are important.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling
two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure
this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Links giving some information about specific Error Reports are:

These links, however, do not contain information about each and every Error
Report.

In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A workaround is
copy and
paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off the
copy in your
Inbox or your Sent Items folder.

Thanks Gerry!
Your first hint hit homebase! (Beeing a Swede I am not
sure I use the expression correctly!)
I disconnected my USB hub with 7 units attached,
restarted and NO DELAY IN STARTING MY COMPUTER!
Now I need "only" to find which hardware is not happy by
attaching one at a time...

Nils,

Glad you found your answer.

You wanted to say that Gerry's first hint "hit a home run". A home run means
that the baseball was hit out of the playing field, so the batter will
score. Home plate (not home base) is where the batter stands when trying to
hit the pitch. If the batter hits a home run, he'll run around the bases and
end up back at home plate.

You may get a clue in Device Manager. Start, Control Panel, System,
Hardware, Device Manager.
