Long beep at start-up and blue screen at shut-down

hi al

i'm running xp pro with a epox mobo and 512mb of bog standard pc100 ram, athlon 1800xp, and a 40gb hd thats never even half full.

1. every morning (it only does it first thing in the morning 99% of the time) there is a long beep after switching on the pc, and then the monitor says "no signal". if i press the restart button it then boots fine! i did read somewhere that one long beep usually means a memory issue, so i re-seated the mem but no difference. any suggestions as to cause/cure

2. this one doesnt happen all the time, but i get a blue screen when shutting down the pc (it usually happens after internet use i think...), but it only does it from time to time. any ideas appreciated

thank

steve

The beep is a hardware issue, nothing to do with XP, as XP has not loaded at
that point. Did you reseat your video card and other cards on the mother
board?

From System Properties [Winkey+Pause/Break]> Advanced tab> Startup and
Recovery> Settings button> Uncheck "Automatic Restart if checked. This will
give you a screen on shutdown wit the error message. Write it down and post
it to the newsgroups.

Shouldn't you have PC 133 ram with an AMD 1800+?
