Logon Unsuccessful error message

Haim

Hello everyone,

We have remote users connecting to the corporate file
servers using VPN connection.
The users have XP Pro and logged in to their laptop with
their domain username and password.
When they try to access the corp file server a dialog box
comes up asking for username and password, the users type
the domain info but get the following message:

"Logon Unsuccessful
The user name you typed is the same as
the user name you logged in with.
That user name has already been tried.
a domain controller cannot be found to verify that user
name."

The domain is native 2000, from the XP workstations we
tried:
domain\user and password
user and password
user@domain and password.

Please - any idea would be much appreciated.

Yours,
Haim.

Have you tried using the option at the C+A+D screen to logon using dial up
networking? That way the VPN connection is created before the user logs on.
Once the VPN connection is created the user will logon and get authenticated
by a DC as opposed to logging on with cached credentials.
