I installed some updates and since that time I have to logon at startup. How
can I avoid this, I am the only user? Also at shutdown I no longer have the
traffic light coloured buttons. How can I get these back?

Hi Roger,

I suspect one of the updates you installed was the optional .net framework.
This creates and additional asp.net account and causes users to get the
logon screen. It is easy enough to fix:

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. In the user list, click on the user that you want to be the
default. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

As to the "colored lights", it is because the welcome screen is disabled. Go
to the Control Panel/Users applet and click "change the way users log on and
log off" and re-enable that option.

Hello Roger,

How to turn on automatic logon in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315231

To enable the welcome screen in Windows XP, click on start and go to the control panel. Click on
User Accounts and click on 'Change the way users log on or off'. Put a check next to 'Use the
Welcome Screen'.
