Logon Script

Hi

we have a win2000 domain accessed by 95,8,xp me & 2000
client machines.

we have 40 win95 machines connecting to the server, after
restarting the fileserver 3 95 users are not getting
drives mapped through their script. we use the
command "net use g: \\server\sharename" to set up specific
drive letters on all 95 machines.

The 3 log in OK but get an error 53 in trying to map a
drive, if you keep trying to login the drives will
eventually map proving there is nothing wrong on the PC
(intermittently anyway) .If you log the user in on another
95 pc it is fine pointing the problem back to the client's
machine ???

has anyone seen this if so please help, I know 95 is old
hat now but the board are tight with budgets we get.

Many Thanks in advance

Paul

Is WINS installed on the server? It is need by W9x, ME and NT4. Also, are
options 044 and 046 (0x8) set in DHCP-server, Scope options?

we have wins installed on the DC but not on the fileserver
we are connecting to for the mappings. The options you
mentioned are also set.
We can ping the server we are trying to map to but not map
to it, if you re-run the script repeatedly you will get
the mappings after a couple of attempts

no longer than \\manchester\margarets, so I see no problem
in the length of these, do you think it may not be doing
the DNS properly as it is not resolving the server name ?

Hi Paul,

Have a look at 259878 about the system error 53.
Make sure that on the servers internal nic, TCP/IP properties, Advanced, tab
WINS, netbios over TCP/IP is enabled.
