logon problem

S

sphilip

the scenario is 2 LANs, LAN1 & LAN2. when workstations in
LAN1 tries communicating with the LAN2 server, they are
asked for username & password. only on the successful
authentication of the same are they given access.

now one user typed in the wrong username & password, now
he is able to view all the folders on the LAN2 server but
has access to none, even to the folder that he has full-
access to. and we cant get the workstation to ask for the
username & password. everytime we restart or re-logon, and
when we go via network neighbourhood, we directly go into
the LAN2 server without authentication.

i want the wks or the server to ask for the logon details
again. how do i make it to.

Hi

It sounds like its ignoring the permissions

Have you got identical user lists on both servers running LAN1 and LAN2

Obviously both servers need to be connected and synchronized depending on what Server O.S. and Client O.S you are running. Its easy to do in Windows 2000 Server as all you would do is make both of them domain controllers and allow replication of users and computers in Active Directory

To me it sounds like the client is looking at the network as workgroup user and isn't actually connecting to the server properly. Its allowing you to Read Only but not edit the files. I think the network log on structure needs to be re-assessed to a more managable state

I am sure others will be able to support you more in this area. Could you provide some information on what Server and Client O.S. you are running
