logon/logoff problem

Using XP Media Edition SP1

When I log on I get the logoff screen almost immediately.
I get no error. It provides the message box "Loading your
personal settings" and then immediately goes to the
messge box "Logging Off..." and then goes back to the Ctrl-
Alt-Del screen.

Anybody have a clue?

I'm having the same prob. If you figure it out can you

must be a common problem i am having the exact same
problem but also my system recovery is not working
either. The only thing i can think of is that my Norton
Antivirus deleted a file or changed my setting accidently
after its routing scann and deletion. if anyone know how
to fix this can you pass it to (e-mail address removed) as well?

I am having the same problem but the userinit issue described by Lavasoft is
not the problem. I copied the wsaupdater.exe from userinit.exe and the
registry entry was correct (C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,)
If anybody finds a fix, please post it. I can log on the system in safe
mode with no problems.
