Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect.

swhalen

I am running a single domain with two domain controllers, DC1 and DC2.
The other day DC1 was brought down for memory upgrades which had it
offline for a hour or so. When it came back up the users tried to start
accessing their files on the server again, SOME but not all started
getting "Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect." After
playing around all the system that had this problem could ping the IP
address and the Netbios name as well access their files by using \\<ip
address>. So the only problem now is access the servers resources by
using \\<server_name>. Upon furthur exploration I found that now DC2
cannot replicated to DC1 and is getting "Access is denied" when trying
to force replication. I tried to access DC1 by using \\<server_name>
and it gave me the error "Logon Failure: The target account name is
incorrect." So the same issue that the workstations are having my
other DC is having.

If anyone knows of what might because this problem I would greatly
appracite your help. As you can see that I have a bit of an issue.

Cheers!

PS. All systems / server have hosts and lmhosts file on them with
computer name to ip address.

remove this. When your WINS and DNS Server configured correctly you dont
need these files.
